A few days more to the biggest Music Awards Show in the country, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards; and who’s going to win the artiste of the year, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, King Promise or Kuami Eugene..?
Arguments have been going round on social media on who deserves to win the award. The BhimNation fans believe it’s Stonebwoy, the SM fans also say it’s Shatta Wale, the SarkNation fans also believe it’s Sarkodie among others.
Well, I am not a fan of any of these artistes but I enjoy their music. Interesting enough I came across a post which totally sums up who deserves to win the artiste of the year.
Below Is The Post;
“@stonebwoyb deserves ARTISTE OF THE YEAR and here’s why (PART 1): We are in 2019 and music lovers and patrons of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) will obviously be anticipating the biggest Award Ceremony in few days. It is worth noting that, the scheme will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and therefore expectations would be high .
Over the years , the Charter House brainchild keeps evolving and everyone’s focus will be hinged on who emerges winner of the ultimate award, i.e. Artiste of the Year.
In line to this, a number of names including Stonebwoy have been nominated for the Artiste of Year category.
I, however, want to single out Stonebwoy as the only musician who stands tall among the other nominees putting 2018 in retrospection.
No one needs any complex arithmetic or methodology to ascertain who is most deserving of the artiste of the year per their works within the year under review.
2018 was a good year for Stonebwoy relatively compared to the other artistes in the category.
From January through to December 2018, Stonebwoy was the only Artiste who consistently put in work with absolutely no period of dormancy including the month of fracas where he took advantage of the situation with civility to keep his brand intact without blemish.
Even under a label , he was able to land himself a juicy deal with Universal Music . After playing all the shows from late 2017 to April 2018 in Ghana , he went on an European tour with his award winning Epistles Of Mama album .
As a Reggae/Dancehall artiste, he played all the big gigs in the world which represent his musical culture. The likes of Summer Jam , Reggaegeel, Enter The Dancehall, Jambana Festival and Sumfest are enviable platforms on which musicians yearn to showcase their craft on, yet, Stonebwoy became the first Ghanaian (resident ) to mount those stages.
To add, I can boldly state that he headlined over 80 % of local shows played in 2019“
